You may be reading this because you are worried someone is monitoring your browsing. That is a valid concern. This page explains practical steps you can take to protect your privacy while you research your options.
Private browsing (also called incognito mode) stops your browser from saving the pages you visit, your search history, and form data. When you close the window, there is no record of what you looked at.
Open a private window before visiting any site you do not want recorded.
Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + N
Mac: Cmd + Shift + N
Mac: Cmd + Shift + N
iPhone/iPad: Tap the tabs icon, then Private
Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + P
Mac: Cmd + Shift + P
Windows: Ctrl + Shift + N
Mac: Cmd + Shift + N
Important: Private browsing does not hide your activity from monitoring software installed on your device, your employer's network, or your internet service provider. It only prevents the browser itself from saving a local record.
If you visited this site or others without using private mode, you can delete specific pages from your history.
Press Ctrl + H (Windows) or Cmd + Y (Mac). Find the entry, click the three dots next to it, and select "Remove from history."
Go to History in the menu bar, then Show All History. Right-click the entry you want to remove and select Delete.
Press Ctrl + H (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + H (Mac). Right-click the entry and select Delete Page.
Press Ctrl + H. Hover over the entry and click the X icon to remove it.
Your browser may suggest sites you have visited when you start typing in the address bar. Even after clearing history, autofill data can remain.
To remove autofill suggestions:
You can also clear all autofill data in your browser settings under Privacy or Clear Browsing Data. Select "Autofill form data" and clear it.
Some partners install monitoring software or parental control apps that track browsing activity, keystrokes, or location. These work even in private browsing mode.
Signs that monitoring software may be installed:
Where to check:
If you suspect monitoring: Do not remove the software yet. This can alert the person who installed it. Instead, use a different device for your research (see below) and speak with a support service like 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) for advice on your situation.
If you are concerned about monitoring, the safest option is to use a device your partner does not have access to.
Shared cloud accounts can reveal your activity even if you clear your local browser history.
Phone calls can appear on shared phone plans and billing statements. If your partner has access to the phone bill, they may see numbers you have called or received calls from.
If this is a concern, you can use our online booking form instead of calling. The booking form does not leave a trace on your phone bill. You can also email us directly at jason@lendology.com.au.
